Frequently Asked Questions

Insurance and Billing

Do you accept insurance?

Yes. We are in-network with BCBS, Messa, and BCN. Being in-network with all three is uncommon for chiropractic offices in the area and means most families in Metro Detroit can use their insurance here. We also see patients with all out-of-network plans. Call your provider to verify your chiropractic benefits before your first visit.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?

BCN patients must have a referral in hand before their first visit. We are in-network with BCBS, Messa, and BCN, which is rare for a chiropractic office. Most clinics are not in-network with BCN at all. If you have BCN and need a referral, call us: we maintain a list of referring MDs and will help you coordinate one before you come in. BCBS and Messa patients do not need a referral.

Does insurance cover massage therapy?

It depends on your plan. Some BCBS plans and Messa insurance cover massage therapy. Messa members get 38 visits covered once they meet their deductible, with an occasional copay. Michigan teachers may have significant massage coverage through their health plan.

What does the new patient visit cost?

The new patient visit fee is $200. If your insurance covers any portion, that amount is credited back to you. We recommend verifying your benefits ahead of your visit.

First Visit and What to Expect

What happens at my first appointment?

Your first visit takes about one hour. We perform a full consultation and a series of non-invasive scans using the Insight Subluxation Station, which includes thermal, heart rate variability, and muscle (SEMG) testing. Everything is painless and takes about 15 minutes. Your doctor reviews your results and begins care at your second visit.

How long does the first appointment take?

Please plan on about one hour for your first appointment. Your second visit, the report of findings, also takes about an hour. Visits after that are typically much shorter.

Can I complete paperwork before I arrive?

Yes. New patient forms are available online at vaneverychiropractic.com. You can complete them in advance or arrive 30 minutes early to fill them out in the office.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Bring a photo ID and your insurance card if you plan to use insurance. You do not need X-rays or prior records, though you are welcome to bring them.

Is the office child-friendly?

Very much so. We have a Jungle Room with toys, books, a drawing board, and even gerbils. Children are always welcome and our techniques are safe for all ages, including newborns.

Chiropractic Techniques

Do chiropractic adjustments hurt?

No. We use the ArthroStim, a handheld instrument that gently taps the vertebra back into alignment at 12 hertz, which is below the pain threshold. There is no cracking, popping, or twisting involved in our adjustments.

What is KST (Koren Specific Technique)?

KST is a chiropractic method developed by Dr. Tedd Koren in 2003. Instead of manual manipulation, we use the ArthroStim instrument to deliver precise, gentle tapping adjustments. It is safe for cranial work, newborns, and post-surgical patients. All three of our doctors are KST trained.

Do you crack backs?

No. We do not use traditional manual manipulation. Our primary technique uses the ArthroStim instrument: gentle tapping, no cracking, no twisting. Patients who have been nervous about chiropractic often find this a much more comfortable experience.

What is Talsky Tonal Chiropractic?

Talsky Tonal Chiropractic is a neurologically-focused technique developed in 2001 that uses gentle, vibratory input to help release stress patterns held in the central nervous system. Dr. Zach Conner is one of only two certified Talsky Tonal instructors in the world. Dr. Saylor also helps teach Talsky Tonal and is a certified KST instructor. All three of our doctors are trained in Talsky Tonal.

Once I start chiropractic care, do I have to keep coming forever?

No. Everyone responds differently to care and the doctors make recommendations, but you always decide your care level. Many patients choose ongoing wellness care after their initial goals are met, but it is entirely your decision.

Can someone who has had back surgery see a chiropractor?

Yes. Our gentle, instrument-based technique involves no cracking or popping and is safe following back surgery. We will review your history and X-rays and customize care accordingly.

Pediatric Chiropractic

Is chiropractic safe for babies and young children?

Yes. We see newborns and children of all ages. For infants, we use extremely light fingertip pressure, roughly the weight of placing a finger on your closed eyelid. The ArthroStim instrument allows us to work gently on even very small cranial bones.

Why would I bring my newborn to a chiropractor?

The birthing process, whether vaginal or C-section, can place significant force on a newborn's spine and cranium. Early assessment helps ensure proper nervous system communication from the start. Many parents see improvements in sleep, feeding, and colic symptoms after just one or two visits.

Can chiropractic help with ear infections?

Ear infections are the number one reason children visit our office. Chiropractic care does not treat infections directly, but restoring proper nervous system function often allows the body to resolve recurring infections. Many families see a significant reduction in frequency after consistent care.

Can chiropractic help with colic?

Many parents report that their baby's crying resolves after the first adjustment. We focus on sacrum rotation and cranial-sacral work, which addresses the nervous system tension that often contributes to colic.

Can chiropractic help with ADHD, autism, or allergies in children?

We work with many families dealing with these conditions. Chiropractic care addresses nervous system interference, which affects how the brain and body communicate. We do not claim to cure these conditions, but many families report meaningful improvements in symptoms with consistent care.

Prenatal Chiropractic

Is chiropractic safe during pregnancy?

Yes. Pregnancy is one of the best times to receive chiropractic care. We use the KST technique, which requires no lying flat on a table, making it comfortable at any stage of pregnancy. Many of our pregnant patients experience significant relief from lower back pain, round ligament pain, and sciatic discomfort.

Do you use the Webster Technique?

Yes. Dr. Saylor is Webster Technique certified. The Webster Technique focuses on balancing the pelvis and sacrum during pregnancy to support optimal fetal positioning and reduce discomfort. Dr. Saylor holds a Diplomate in Clinical Chiropractic Pediatrics (DICCP), which includes advanced training in prenatal care.

Will you coordinate with my OB-GYN?

Yes. We work closely with many OB-GYNs in the area and are happy to communicate with your care team.

Can I get prenatal massage at your office?

Yes. Our massage therapists are trained in prenatal massage. Sessions focus on the pelvis, hips, and areas of discomfort while avoiding contraindicated pressure points, especially as you approach your due date.

Massage Therapy

Do I have to be a chiropractic patient to receive massage?

No. Massage services are open to everyone, not only chiropractic patients.

What types of massage do you offer?

We offer relaxation massage, deep tissue massage, prenatal massage, and stress-reduction massage. Your therapist will discuss your specific needs before the session to determine the best approach.

How much does massage cost?

A one-hour massage session is $90. Some insurance plans, including certain BCBS and Messa plans, cover massage therapy. We can help you verify your coverage.

Conditions and Services

What conditions do you treat?

We see patients with back pain, neck pain, headaches, migraines, sciatica, TMJ, scoliosis, carpal tunnel, fibromyalgia, constipation, sleep issues, anxiety, stress, and more. We also see children and infants for colic, ear infections, ADHD, allergies, asthma, bedwetting, and growing pains. If your condition is not listed, call us: chances are we can help.

Do you offer laser therapy?

Yes. We offer cold laser therapy for joint, tendon, and nerve-related issues. It is a non-invasive, painless treatment that supports tissue healing and reduces inflammation.
