Why Your Child's Spine Matters
It's normal to have your baby's eyes, heart or hearing checked. But what about their spine?
You can give your baby the best chance at a healthy life with simple chiropractic checkups that can impact the rest of their life.
The spine is the gateway for communication between the brain and body. When your baby or child has proper spinal alignment, the brain and body can communicate at optimal levels. This allows for the greatest possible expression of health.
Understanding Subluxations in Children
Misalignments, or subluxations in the spine, are caused by traumas, thoughts and toxins. Though it's easy to see where adults experience the "Three Ts," you might be wondering how a baby is exposed to these causes.
- Traumas – The birthing process, learning to walk, falls, sports injuries, backpack weight
- Thoughts – Emotional stress from school, relationships, family changes, anxiety
- Toxins – Processed foods, sugar, artificial ingredients, environmental chemicals
Children accumulate subluxations from falls, bumps, poor nutrition, and daily stress—and these small misalignments compound as they grow. We focus on finding and correcting subluxations early, before they become hardwired into your child's nervous system. Our gentle care helps balance the vagal nerve, reducing fight-or-flight responses and supporting emotional regulation, better sleep, improved digestion, and overall wellness. A balanced nervous system through chiropractic is the foundation for a healthy, thriving child.
Gentle, Effective Care for Children
After completing testing using the INSiGHT™ Subluxation Station, we can precisely determine which areas of your child's body need attention. With the gentlest touch, we can restore balance and alignment to their system.
The chiropractic technique we utilize – known as KST – allows us to perform cranial-sacral work, and is ideal for newborns and children alike. We're proud to offer new parents an initial newborn examination free of charge if they've been coming to the office for their prenatal care.

Can Chiropractic Help with Colic?
Though chiropractic isn't a treatment for colic, it can help restore proper nervous system function.
With the way we care for babies, it's a little different, because we find a lot more belly upsets and diaphragm disturbances due to the crying, so the adjustment is very different too.
At Van Every Family Chiropractic Center, we get to the root of why a baby is so upset, determining what's wrong and then fixing the issue. To do that, we do a lot of cranial-sacral work, specifically looking at the rotation of the sacrum. Those two areas are the key.
We usually see an immediate resolution with babies and colic. The crying is almost always gone after the first adjustment.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pediatric Chiropractic
Is chiropractic safe for babies and children?
Yes. Pediatric chiropractic at Van Every Family Chiropractic Center uses extremely gentle techniques like Koren Specific Technique (KST). The pressure used on infants is no more than you would use to test a ripe tomato. Dr. Anna Saylor holds a DICCP pediatric diplomate.
At what age can a child see a chiropractor?
Children can be checked from birth. Many parents bring their newborns in within the first weeks of life, especially after difficult births. We offer a free newborn examination for families already receiving prenatal care at our Royal Oak office.
What does a pediatric chiropractic adjustment look like?
Pediatric adjustments at our office use the ArthroStim instrument or gentle fingertip contacts. There is no cracking, popping, or twisting. Children are often adjusted while sitting in a parent's lap or lying comfortably. Most children enjoy their visits.
What conditions do pediatric chiropractors treat?
Our pediatric chiropractors help children with colic, ear infections, sleep difficulties, digestive issues, developmental delays, sensory processing challenges, and general wellness. We focus on restoring proper nervous system function rather than treating specific symptoms.
Why choose a DICCP-certified chiropractor for my child?
The Diplomate in Chiropractic Pediatrics (DICCP) requires over 360 hours of specialized training across three years. Dr. Anna Saylor earned this board-certified credential in 2000, ensuring your child receives care from a doctor with advanced pediatric expertise.
